چکیده
and Explanation Depressed fibrinogen levels are found in a) acquired hypofibrinogenemia or afibrinogenemia Acquired fibrinogen deficient conditions occur especially as a result of intravascular proteolysis of fibrinogen by thrombin (consumption coagulopathy e.g. in obstetrics, following surgical intervention), snake venom or plasmin (primary hyperfibrinolysis following therapy with streptokinase, urokinase or tPA). Moreover, moderate hypofibrinogenemias can occur in the case of reduced production (in acute or chronic liver diseases), loss of intravascular volume (e.g. with ascites or acute bleeding as well as with erythemas) or in the case of increased breakdown (with shock or carcinomas). b) congenital hypofibrinogenemia and afibrinogenemia. Temporarily elevated fibrinogen levels are found as a result of fibrinogen responding as an "acute phase protein": a) Transitory hyperfibrinogenemias may occur following surgery, trauma, heart attack and infections1. b) Longer lasting hyperfibrinogenemias may be detected in neoplasias and chronic inflammatory illnesses. A slight increase in the level of fibrinogen is observed with increase in age. Elevated fibrinogen levels are a risk factor for cardiovascular disease2.

Prothrombin time derived fibrinogen determination on Sysmex CA-6000.
AIM To evaluate PT derived fibrinogen determinations with reference to the Clauss fibrinogen assay using a Sysmex CA-6000 random access coagulation analyser. METHODS Samples were analysed from normal subjects (n = 20), patients with renal or liver dysfunction (n = 25), critically ill patients (n = 25), patients receiving oral anticoagulant treatment (n = 50), and patients with a haemoglobinop...
متن کاملDiagnostic utility of comparing fibrinogen Clauss and prothrombin time derived method.
A prothrombin time (PT) derived method has been described to measure plasma fibrinogen concentration. This method is not a direct determination of plasma fibrinogen but an estimation of the fibrinogen concentration from the absorbance changes at 450 nm (delta OD) during the clotting process of the PT on an automated photo optical coagulometers [1,2]. Although this assay is quick, economical and...
متن کاملA practical method for the determination of fibrinogen.
HE SERIAL DETERMINATION OF FIBRINOGEN is a useful tool in the diagnosis, prognosis and management of various conditions such as acute myocardial infarction, rheumatic fever, gangrenous lesions and hepatic disorders (1). In obstetrical cases, particularly where hypoor afibrinogenemia may be the cause of gross bleeding in parturition, there is a need for a method which is accurate, simple to perf...
متن کاملClinical nephelometry. 1. New, accurate, heat-precipitation nephelometric method for rapid determination of plasma fibrinogen.
We have developed an accurate procedure for measurement of plasma fibrinogen. Turbidity resulting from heating (56#{176}C, 20 mm) plasma diluted with a new “zwitterionic” buffered-saline reagent (pH 5.6) is nephelometrically measured (600 nm). We evaluated the method both by confirming the accuracy of its prestandardization and calibration on a new clinical nephelometer, and by comparative stan...
متن کاملQuality control material for plasma fibrinogen test produced from purified human fibrinogen
Plasma fibrinogen measurement is a routine laboratory procedure commonly performed on automated coagulation analysers. Its determination is quantitative, not quantitative. Yet, a lack of precision has been an issue for fibrinogen measurement. A control material derived from plasma comprises many proteins, inhibitors and fatty acids, any or all of which can interfere in the fibrinogen assay. Thi...
